RadioActive 91.3 FM: New Antenna System Now On Air in Sifnos

Written by on October 20, 2026

Our brand-new FM antenna system is up on the mast at Agios Merkouris in Artemonas, and as of today it is on the air. RadioActive 91.3 FM is broadcasting to Sifnos and the surrounding Cycladic islands from a completely new installation, top to bottom.

Why we had to start over

For well over fifteen years, the old antenna system served us well from one of the highest points in Artemonas. But age, salt, and the island winds finally caught up with it. It developed serious problems over the past months, and when it failed, it also damaged our main transmitter. Since then, we have been broadcasting at reduced power to keep the music playing while we worked on a permanent solution.

We decided not to patch things up. Nothing from the old installation was kept: the antennas, the mounting hardware, the coaxial cables, the connectors, all of it was replaced with new equipment.

Everything new: antennas, splitter, and all-new coaxial cabling.

The installation

The new system is made up of six circularly polarized FM antennas. Circular polarization means a stronger, more consistent signal for every kind of receiver, whether it is a car radio on the road to Kastro, a kitchen radio in Apollonia, or a radio on a boat out at sea.

Each antenna was assembled on the ground, then raised and mounted on the mast one by one by a professional tower climber who came from Athens for the job. The installation was exceptional: careful, precise, and done to the highest standard. We are truly grateful for the skill and the effort that went into it.

Because Music Matters

The total cost of the project exceeded 7,500 euros. For a non-commercial radio station with no income, that is a very large amount. But we never had a second thought about it. We did it because Music Matters, and because we deeply appreciate our FM listeners on Sifnos and across the surrounding Cycladic islands. We know how much you love RadioActive, and you deserve to hear it at its best.

What happens next

The new antenna is working, but for now we are still transmitting at low power. Our main transmitter, damaged by the old antenna system, is still being repaired. As soon as it is back, RadioActive 91.3 FM will return to full power, and the new antennas will finally show what they can do. We will let you know the moment it happens.

Until then, thank you for your patience and for staying with us. Wherever you are, you can always listen online on our website and in the RadioActive app.

RadioActive 91.3 FM. Music Matters.
